Biogas on the move!

We have biomethane. What now?

There are several use cases for biomethane. Biomethane can be used in filling stations, provided that the right pressure is achieved, typically up to 250bar psi. This compressed biomethane can then be used for filling stations where the biomethane is either transported by pipeline or by mobile shipping containers, which are containers equipped with high pressure cylinders. The compressed biomethane is made by hydraulic compression booster technology, a patented system of Metener’s. Once compressed, the biomethane can be put into the shipping containers, either for capacity storage at a filling station or then used to transport the shipping containers for its intended end use.

Most common uses for biomethane:

1. Filling stations for CNG vehicles

2. Pressure reduction systems for reducing highly pressured biomethane to be used in heating, electricity, or even straight to the grid.

3. Storage containers which can be used to sell biomethane onward to other companies and customers needing biomethane for their usage.

Filling station with options

Metener’s refuelling station, to which biomethane is delivered in either mobile shipping containers or directly via pipeline. The refuelling station typically includes:

  • Pressure boosting equipment in a thermally insulated, refrigerated container with a separate Atex process room and electrical/automation room.
  • Refuelling canopy, crash barriers.
  • Dispenser with 1-2 refuelling hoses (NGV1 / NGV2)
  • Payment terminal (contact payment, debit/credit)
  • Gas lines and their protection, telecommunication connections.
  • Licensing, approvals, markings, instructions for use.
  • Gas transfer containers and connections.

Pressure reduction system

Reducing compressed gas for use in facility heating, CHP, industrial use, and a variety of other applications

Metener’s pressure reduction system (PRS) equipment is used for high pressure CNG/CBG gas pressure reduction in order for the gas can be used, for example, in facility heating, CHP plants, industrial use.

Pressurized methane is transported in cylinder bottles in which the gas is compressed to high pressure (200 bar). System pressures in gas applications are typically low, often 50-100 mbar (or even below that), so the pressure in the transport container must be reduced to the pressure level allowed by the application.

The PRS system is completely automatic and its functions can be monitored remotely.

Hydraulic compression booster

  • Metener’s patented hydraulic compression booster system

  • Capacity starts with 40Nm3/h of upgraded gas compressed to 270 bar

  • Applicable for methane (natural gas or upgraded biogas)

  • CE approved

  • Made in Finland

Sold as an independent product or as an optional additional package product for filling stations.

Mobile Shipping containers

We deliver competitively priced biomethane transport containers that are imported from Europe and finalized by Metener in Finland.

Approximately 1700 kg of biomethane / natural gas (200 / 250 bar) goes into one container. The container is delivered after a commissioning inspection by an inspection agency (for example, Inspecta, in Finland). We also deliver container unloading for filling stations.

Note: It is possible to get Leasing financing for the container through our partner.
